Apprenticeship Program
The Washington Construction Teamsters Apprenticeship Program is a 3000 hour on the
job training program covering a variety of Teamster Construction Equipment including
truck and pup, belly dumps, water trucks and off highway dump trucks. During your
apprenticeship you will work on construction sites -
Prior to beginning your on the job training, you must attend
six weeks of initial training at Training Center in Pasco, WA to learn the basics
of the trade. Most of the time is spent behind the wheel driving. This includes
construction training at our 50 acre pit and on the road driving. If you do not
currently have a Commercial Drivers License we prepare you to pass both the written
and driving tests. You are not paid for the six weeks of initial training.
The wages
and fringe benefits for journey person teamsters are defined in a contract between
the Construction Teamsters and the employers. Apprentice wages are based on a percentage
of the current journey person wage rate for a particular piece of equipment. A beginning
apprentice's wage rate is 70% of a journey person's hourly wage. An apprentice's
wage increases in 10% increments as he/she advances through the program. The apprentice
also receives full family medical and retirement benefits as described in the contract.
